Introduction
The BIBI CARE Volunteer Program is designed to engage both local and international volunteers — particularly from Europe — in meaningful, ethical, and community-driven work in the Kagera region of Tanzania. The program provides structured opportunities to contribute to health, education, youth development, and community welfare initiatives while experiencing cultural immersion and grassroots development.
Intake Periods
Volunteers are accepted throughout the year, with structured placements aligned to program cycles.
Program Objectives
- Support ongoing community programs in health, education, and social welfare.
- Promote girls’ dignity and access to education through menstrual health initiatives (WASITIRI).
- Engage youth through sports and life skills development.
- Build international awareness and partnerships.
- Create a sustainable volunteer ecosystem that complements local capacity.
Core Volunteer Areas
A. Health & Menstrual Dignity Program (WASITIRI)
Activities:
- Support sanitary pad distribution (3 cycles annually)
- Assist in menstrual health education sessions
- Help develop awareness materials

Public health students, gender advocates, educators
B. Education Support Program
Activities:
- Assist with English language support and reading clubs
- Support school-based mentorship and life skills sessions
- Introduce basic digital literacy (where feasible)

C. Youth Engagement - BIBI CUP
Activities:
- Support planning and coordination of annual football tournament
- Assist coaching sessions and youth engagement
- Facilitate life skills and gender awareness discussions

D. Community Support & Welfare
Activities:
- Assist in distribution of essential materials to vulnerable households
- Support outreach to elderly and low-income families

E. Media & Storytelling
Activities:
- Document programs through photography and video
- Develop social media and website content
- Produce short impact stories

Journalists, content creators, filmmakers
Logistics & Support
Travel & Transport
Volunteers arrange international travel. Local transport organized for program activities.
Accommodation
Local guesthouses OR host family arrangements.
Meals
Provided through accommodation or local arrangements.
Requirements
Age 18+, English/Kiswahili skills, respect for local culture.
Program Structure
Duration Options
- Short-term: 2–4 weeks
- Medium-term: 1–3 months
- Long-term: 3–6 months (limited roles)

Standard Program Calendar
Quarter 1 (July – Sept)
Primary intake window. First WASITIRI distribution cycle of the program year.
Quarter 2 (Oct – Dec)
Community health outreach and education projects in full swing.
Quarter 3 (Jan – March)
Annual BIBI CUP preparation and youth engagement focus.
Quarter 4 (April – June)
Final Pad Distribution cycle and year-end impact reporting.

Ethics & Safeguarding
- Volunteers do not replace local staff.
- Community dignity and consent must be respected.
- No unsupervised work with vulnerable groups.
- Responsible storytelling (no exploitation of images).
